What you see – Guanaja is situated in a quiet location in Candolim, Goa. The outdoors have a countryside feel at this chocolate cafĂ©, as you can sit in the shade of huge coconut trees while the birds play music. With the beach located just a few meters away, it's nature's paradise here.
The furniture is antique in wood with log-like designs. Coy sofa seating is also provided for those who wish to laze back and breathe in the fresh air. Inside, there are dark wood interiors with the glass pane showcasing glimpses of the beautiful outside. Don't miss out on the cute display of the gingerbread man on the counter.
Most of the food items available are displayed within glass counters, so you can have a good look at what you are about to dig into. In addition, there is a wooden stand with shelves on which biscuits and a few other food varieties are exhibited.
What you get – Guanaja is one of the outlets of ‘The Chocolate Man's Production' chain in Goa. Its specialty is the homemade chocolates. Also available here are snacks and pastries like pies, cakes, muffins, biscuits, cookies, brownies, sandwiches and croissants. Interesting choices in beverages including plain Hot chocolate, Hot chocolate with liquor, Irish coffee, Calypso coffee, Iced tea and Iced coffee are also offered.
A hot favorite here is the Chocolate fondue that is served in a little mud bowl with a tiny spirit lamp underneath. The lamp keeps the chocolate simmering hot and silky as you stir it with the spoon provided. You can choose to relish your fondue with marshmallows, bits of cheese or wafer biscuits. These are served separately and need to be gently dipped in the devouring creamy chocolate concoction before you savor them.
Other delicious selections here include sandwiches in sumptuous flavors like egg and bacon, tuna, chicken, salami, ham and beef. Round it off with White chocolate mud cake, German chocolate cake, Black forest cake and Tiramisu. Rum balls, Mousse and Eclairs are available here too in addition to Chocolate fudge and Almond biscuits.
Coming to chocolates, you can pick from a wide range including Almond praline, Mango, Lemon grass and coconut, Rum and raisin etc. A luscious chocolate fountain though not on display is available too. It is given on hire for weddings and parties.
Our verdict – Guanuja is definitely worth a visit, especially if you're a chocolate fanatic. The service however is just about average. Limited parking space is available.
